Communication & Making Inferences, Predictions and Assumption

Last August 3, 2013 we tackled about Communication & Making Inferences, Predictions and Assumptions,

first, Inference is the non-logical, but rational, means, through observation of patterns of facts, to indirectly see new meanings and contexts for understanding. Of particular use to this application of inference are anomalies and symbols. Inference, in this sense, does not draw conclusions but opens new paths for inquiry.

next is Prediction It is a statement about the way things will happen in the future, often but not always based on experience or knowledge.

Assumption refers to the act of taking to or upon oneself an obligation or a statement that is assumed to be true and from which a conclusion can be drawn; hypothesis that is taken for granted.

Last The Types and Methods of Communication is the exchange and flow of information and ideas from one person to another; it involves a sender transmitting an idea, information, or feeling to a receiver.and any act by which one person gives to or receives from another person information about that person's needs, desires, perceptions, knowledge, or effective states.

Those i discussed above was very helpful for the matter of communicating. Now that we already know the difference of all those, it will help us to understand the flow of a conversation and it will make us aware of our mistakes.

  • Hypothesis statement- an assumption made in an attempt to explain an observation.
  • Theory statement-an explanation for a group of observation.
  • Assumptive statement- an opinion that has an improbable prediction.
  • Value statement- describes as any claim that is based on someone’s beliefs.
  • Exaggerated statement- one embellishes the facts, often to sway the reader. Maybe, perhaps, worst/best, experts agree, successful, necessary, apparently and probably are words that may warn a person that they are being given an opinion and not a fact.

Close and Open Conversation

Last July 30, we talked about ''Close and Open Conversation''. Conversation means exchange of thoughts, opinions and feelings.

First we discussed about "Closed Conversation" If you can answer a question with only a "yes" or "no" response, then you are answering a close-ended type of question. For example:
  • Can I help you with that?
  • Would you like to go to the movies tonight?
  • Is english your favorite subject?

These are answerable of yes or no and there seven ways to widen the conversation base on the topic given.
  1. give a little information than what is asked for.
  2. make a related comment.
  3. repeat key words.
  4. react in some creative way or it is also known as rejoinders.
  5. add comments.
  6. add a related questions
  7. use question tags.
Second, The "Open Conversation" An open question are questions that cannot be answered with a simple yes or no, or with only one or two words For example:

  • What are you planning to buy today at the supermarket?
  • How exactly did the fight between the two of you start?
  • What is your favorite memory from childhood?

Open Questions seek longer answers, and are the opposite of closed questions.

After the discussion we were asked to get a partner and perform in the class using the Close and Open Conversation and the seven ways to keep the conversation going.

I think the topic is very useful in our daily life, We learned how to communicate and engage in a conversation the right way.
